Seminarians from Navarre

On Wednesday night we had a visit from two seminarians for the diocese of Navarre in northern Spain. Jon and Javier had been staying at St John's, Wonersh, but since they needed to get to Stansted for an early flight they asked if they could spend Wednesday night here in the parish. I had met Jon on a number of occasions in the past on my visits to Pamplona. He is now in his first year at the diocesan seminary, while Javier is in his fourth year.
Sometimes it is asked whether we should be keeping seminaries open when numbers are low. To put things into perspective, Wonersh has about forty resident students and staff in a building built for a hundred. In Navarre there are seventeen students - in a building designed for one thousand two hundred students...
